The first two images shown here are of the excavations at Area E of the Lewis site in Chase County. The third image shows the site after heavy rain. The site was excavated by Kansas Historical Society archeologists and crew. Area E consisted of a trench and several test units: a burned rock complex, four cache pits and a large limestone concentration were revealed during the excavations. The Lewis site had multiple occupations starting in the Archaic period through the Middle Ceramic periods.
