This photograph shows St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Emporia, Kansas. Founded by the Lutheran Missionary Society of Emporia in November 1882 and held its first service prior to completion on September 3, 1899. The church was razed in 1972 after a new building was built where it's cornerstone is now located at Twelfth and Lincoln Streets in Emporia. At the time this photograph was taken, Rev. Ernest F. Tonsing was the pastor. He served the congregation from September 1941 to August 1943 when he enlisted as Chaplain in the United States Army during World War II.
