This pipestone pendant or ornament was recovered from excavations during the 1977 Kansas Archeology Training Programs at the Tobias site in Rice County. The Tobias site is a Late Ceramic period proto Wichita village site that had dense artifact deposits (including chain mail), house remains and numerous deep trash-filled storage pits. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The pendant was two conical holes drilled along its body. The ornament may have been repurposed from a broken pipestone pipe, as is suggested by the series of lines running the length of the piece which may have once been the interior of a pipe.
