Shown are two buttons excavated in 1966 by Kansas Historical Society archeologists from historic Fort Hays in Ellis County. Both buttons were manufactured by the Novelty Rubber Company of New Brunswick, New Jersey, which operated from 1855 to 1970. The smaller button is a two hole fish eye and the larger is an alpha shank button. Fort Hays was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and is a State Historic Site.
