These four marbles are just a few of those excavated from Fort Hays, in Ellis County, in 1966 by Kansas Historical Society archeologists. All of the marbles have seen hard usage. The two on the left are made of glass in a swirl pattern. They are next to a Bennington marble, made of glazed clay. The largest marble is made of glass and is 2" in diameter. Though hard to discern, it has an outer set of swirls with an inner core of different swirls. Fort Hays was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and is a State Historic Site.
