This indictment of Patrick Devlin for horse theft was issued by the Third District Court in Fort Scott, Kansas Territory. Devlin was accused of stealing a horse from an unknown person on January 1, 1860 on Miami Tribal Land in Lykins (present-day Miami) County, Kansas Territory. As more settlers came to Kansas during the territorial period, illegal settlement on Native American lands increased.
