These legal documents relate to the case of the United States vs. Benjamin F. Dare for robbery. Dare was accused of stealing a letter for Lucian F. Crist containing three hundred dollars while acting as a deputy postmaster on April 18, 1859 in Olathe, Kansas Territory. The theft was reported by Olathe Postmaster Simon F. Hill. Dare was arrested and released on bond May 2, 1859.
