These legal documents relate to the case of the United States vs. Benjamin F. Dare and Simon F. Hill. Dare was arrested for stealing United States mail in Johnson County, Kansas Territory and released on recognizance, or bail bond, on May 2, 1859, with Simon F. Hill acting as a secondary party. Dare did not attend the Third District Court during the November term of 1859 for his trial, thus forfeiting the recognizance.
