This subpoena, affidavit, and arrest warrant relate to the case of the United States vs. C. Cox for larceny. Cox and associate A. E. Blythe were accused of stealing a horse from Lewis Mogria (Moggrie), a member of the Osage tribe, in July of 1858 in southeast Kansas Territory. Lafayette Shamblin swore in an affidavit before Judge Joseph Williams that he knew of Cox's intention to steal the horse and witnessed Cox and Blythe in possession of the horse. Cox was arrested on August 25, 1858. (See items #444794 and #444795 for more information)
