This writ of scire facias was issued for Joseph M. Cole on February 23, 1859 by the United States District Court of the Kansas Territory, Second District, in Lecompton. The writ reports Cole was summoned to act as a juror but failed to appear on October 4, 1858. A writ of scire facias is a judicial writ ordering a defendant to appear in court and explain why a judgement, in this case a fine of ten dollars, should not be enforced.
