These legal documents relate to the case of the United States vs. John Bruno for selling liquor to Native Americans without a license in the Kansas Territory. Bruno was indicted for the crime on October 13, 1856 by the U. S. District Court of the Kansas Territory, First District, in Lecompton. From 1832 to 1953, it was illegal to sell alcohol to Native Americans or introduce it into tribal lands.
