This writ relates to the charge of contempt against David Bailey for failing to appear as a petit juror for Second District Court in Lecompton, Kansas Territory on January 3, 1859. A writ was issued on February 24, 1859 by the Second District Court ordering Bailey to appear during the March court session and explain his absence, with a possible fine of ten dollars if conditions for his absence were not met.
