These eight decorated body sherds were among the many collected from an Early Ceramic period site in Elk County and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1972. The sherds show a variety of decorative techniques including some that are decorated with series of dentate stamping. Dentate stamping is a decorating technique that leaves tooth-like impressions and it is associated with Cuesta phase Kansas City Hopewell and Schultz phase pottery. Other sherds are decorated with an incised crosshatched designs or slash marks. The sherd on the bottom right has an additional looped line border. The far left sherd in the middle row was reconstructed by the donor.
