The Quixote site in Jefferson County contains two house or debris middens from the Grasshopper Falls phase, 500 AD - 1000 AD. Milton Reichart, of Valley Falls, had discovered the site in 1973 and brought it to the attention of archeologist Brad Logan. In 1988, Logan, Reichart, and others tested the site. During the back filling stage Reichart deposited this message in a bottle. Strictly speaking, this was a message in a medicine vial, inside an empty bottle of Always Save brand juice, and wrapped with cord and plastic. In 2017 the Quixote site was the location of the Kansas Archeology Training Program, Brad Logan serving as Principle Investigator, with assistance from Kansas Historical Society archeologists and volunteers from the Kansas Anthropological Association. During the course of the investigations Milton Reichart message was discovered and, when opened, it was learned that "MILTON REICHART BACK FILLED 10/19/1988," 28 years and 232 days from the date of deposit.
