This button front was recovered during excavations in 1973 by the Kansas State Teacher's College (now Emporia State University) archeological field school. The button front depicts a cameo of a helmeted woman facing right. She wears a laurel wreath upon her head and has pendant-type earring. The Baker Store artifact collection was donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1993. The site, along the Santa Fe Trail in Morris County, was the location of the Baker House and Store, which burned in 1862 during the murder of A.I. Baker.
