This chunkey stone was found in Leavenworth County and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1925. Chunkey stone were used to play a Native American game, called Chunkey, that may be the oldest game in America. Two players would throw a stick at the rolling chunkey stone, competing to land their throw closest to the stone when it stopped its roll. Some versions of the game incorporate a hoop. The stone was pecked and smoothed into its final shape.
