The Madonna on the Trail statue, located at Council Grove, Kansas, was one of twelve erected along the Old Santa Fe Trail to symbolize the work and sacrifices of women pioneers. The monuments were dedicated in 1928 and 1929. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
