Joseph Thoes, center, and his wife Augusta, right, pose with their daughter Emma Thoes Palenske in front of their homestead, located three miles south of Alma, Kansas. This is a reprint of an original 1880s photograph which Louis Palenske reprinted in his Osage City studio in the 1930s. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
