This studio portrait taken in Alma in about 1907 shows Joseph and Augusta Dieball Thoes. Joseph Thoes and his brother, Peter, were among the earliest settlers in Wabaunsee county, arriving in the Alma area in 1856. This photo was reprinted by the Thoes' son-in-law, Louis Palenske, at his Osage City studio in the1930s. This is a photographic copy of the original taken by Gus Meier in 1907. Funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission through the Kansas State Historical Records Advisory Board.
