These three scrapers are just a few of those recovered from the Woods site, 14CY30, in Clay County. All three scrapers are made of Florence chert from the Flint Hills. Two show a remnant of the chalky cortex and one has been heat-treated (red-pink colored), improving its knapping qualities. The scrapers may have been hafted on a handle and would have been used to scrape hides. They would have required periodic resharpening. The Woods site was a Smoky Hill phase Middle Ceramic site with at least two house structures.
