This small collection includes letters and recollections from Percival Greene Lowe, who served as a dragoon at Fort Kearney, Nebraska in the 1850s. Lowe describes a successful attempt by the dragoons to get a band of Pawnee Indians to come to a meeting with U. S. military leaders. He also writes about the 1856 Battle at Hickory Point, near Leavenworth, and calls into question the motivations of Free State forces at this battle. Lowe died in 1908 and is buried in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Funds for digitization provided by Mr. Steve Peckel in memory of William Chalfant.
