Dear Sir, I received your note a few days since and am sorry I can not go up I hope Mr Chiles will settle that Account up honorably I have his receipts for the Amount of Provision as charged on the Bill I sent you.
The Boards if he did not sell or use them and they were used by the Town company of course will be accounted for. I Paid him for hauling them, and I understand that he sold the Blacksmith Tools for $30 Dollars. There might have been a little damaged of the Herring & cheese and but one or two pieces of Bacon could be hurt But what he can prove was spoiled not through his neglect it will be right to allow a deduction Mr Goodnow says he made no settlement But Mr Chiles Paid him once $fifty Dolls when I was up there for which he gave him a receipt The whole transaction, can

We are ready to make all reasonable & just allowances and hope he will settle it without the trouble of a suit And hope he will pay you as you need it on the college—Times are verry tight here I cannot collect any money at all Tell Mr McCullem I Recd his twenty Dollar draft on Pomroy and have sent it to Atcheson for Collection I start Saturday to Keokuck & Burlington To canvass for the railroad. We are operating for a R.R. up Kansas rivers & the Pacific R.R. through the Cochatope Pass I wrote to Douglas & others for your Grant of land for our agricultural College. But so far [Lefompton?] has swallowed up every thing It passed the Senate by 7 majority & the struggle is still doubtful in the house Calhoun has declared he will give a majority to Free Statemen Have all your leading men write to Members of Congress for your Land grant Parrott needs stirring Emigrants are just beginning to come in crowds Mostly substantial citizens-Yours Geo S Park
