Indenture, purchase of town lots by Bluemont College Trustees

This Indenture made the 28th day of December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight, between Thomas C. Wells, of Riley County, Kansas Territory, and Eleanor S. Wells, his wife, parties of the first part; and Joseph Denison, Samuel D. Houston, Washington Marlatt, Isaac T. Goodnow, Charles E Blood, William A. McCullom, and their associate Trustees, of the “Bluemont Central College Association,” chartered by the Legislature of Kansas Territory at its session in the City Of Lawrence in the year eighteen hundred and fifty eight, parties of the second part, witnesseth:
That the parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of sixty five dollars, paid to the said Thomas C. Wells by the parties of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day, bargained, sold, conveyed, and confirmed and by these present, do hereby, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the parties of the second part, and to their successors in office and assigns forever, all that parcel of land, adjoining the “Bluemont Town Site” on the North, consisting of a tract thirteen rods wide and one hundred and sixty rods long, containing thirteen acres, more or less, situated in the North West Quarter of Section twelve, in Township ten South, and range seven, East of the Sixth principal Meridian, and being the Southern part of said quarter section, together with all and singular, the hereditaments and appurtanences thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining; and the rents, issues, and profits thereof. To have and to hold the above granted premises with the appurtenances there unto belonging unto the said parties of the second part, their successors in Office and assigns to their sole use and behoof forever. At Manhattan on this 28th day of December A.D. eighteen hundred and fifty eight before me personally appeared Thomas C. Wells to me well known and acknowledged that he executed the written deed of conveyance for the purposes therein mentioned. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the City of Manhattan the day and year above written. E. M. Thurston Mayor of Manhattan City and ex officio Justice of the Peace
Eleanor S. Wells, whose name is subscribed to the foregoing Deed, being personally known to me, on examination apart from her husband, says that she executed the same of her own free will and with a full knowledge of it purport. In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix the Seal of the City of Manhattan the day and year above written.
