Deluxe model 1866 Winchester rifle, serial number 80,362. Presented by Samuel J. Crawford to Nehemiah Green in 1871. Crawford served as Kansas Governor from 1865 to 1868. Green served as his Lieutenant Governor and eventually assumed the governorship when Crawford resigned to lead the 19th Cavalry against the Cheyenne. The receiver, butt plate, and forestock trim are gold-plated and engraved, including hunting scenes on the receiver flanks by Conrad Friedrich Ulrich. The dedication reads "Wichita, Octr. 21st 1871. To Nehemiah Green from S.J.C., in friendship and gratitude."
