This photograph of an unidentified baseball team includes Kansan Adrian "Ad" Lindsey (standing, on the far right). A native of Oklahoma, Lindsey moved to Kansas in his youth and was a multi-sport athlete at the University of Kansas, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He played minor league baseball in Salina, Bartlesville, Montreal, and Wilkes-Barre; during WWI, he was a teammate of Grover Cleveland Alexander on the 342nd Field Artillery baseball team (see Kansas Memory Item Number 225688). Although skilled at baseball, Lindsey was better known as a football player and coach. He captained the KU football team in 1916 and was twice named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team. At the close of WWI, he was a member of the Eighty-Ninth Division football team that won the American Expeditionary Forces championship. Lindsey would later become the head football coach at KU (1932-38), after serving in a similar capacity at Bethany College (1922-26), and the University of Oklahoma (1927-31).
