This photograph shows three men identified from left to right as: J.O. Phillips, John Seirer, and Sidney Lawson, standing over the deceased body of bank robber Anthony McKee in Sylvan Grove, Kansas. In the afternoon of November 12, 1894, three armed men robbed the Sylvan State Bank of Sylvan Grove. As the robbers attempted to flee Mr. William D. Schernerhorn, assistant cashier of the bank, shot McKee with a Sharps rifle instantly killing McKee. Visible in the background is the bank (identified as the white building) and the blacksmith shop to the far right.
