This sod house was built in 1916 or 1917 by Mr. S. Bishop in Hamilton County, Kansas. The back of the house was built of dobie [adobe] blocks (made of dirt and straw and put up as brick after they were dried). The home consisted of two large rooms of sod and three rooms in the adobe part.
