This is a cabinet card showing Mason Summers Peters. He was born in Clay County, Missouri near Kearney. After attending William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, he taught in Clay County, Missouri grammar schools from 1867 to 1870. He served as clerk of the court in Clinton County, Missouri from 1870 to 1874. Peters studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1875 and practice law in Plattsburg, Missouri. In 1886, he moved to Wyandotte County, Kansas where he helped organized the Union Live Stock Commission Company in 1895.
Peters was elected as a Populist to the Fifty-fifth U. S. Congress and served from March 4, 1897-March 3, 1899, but he was not reelected in 1898. After serving in Congress, he resumed his business and professional pursuits in Kansas City, Kansas. Peters died in Kansas City, Missouri on February 14, 1914 and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.
