Members of the Swan Burk family are pictured in this studio portrait from the early 1900s. Standing in the back are (left to right): Henry Burk, Tillie Burk, Martin Burk, and Ida (Burk) Strom. Seated in the front are Swan Burk and his wife Maria (Mary). Swan Burk emigrated from Sweden to the U.S. in 1865, and homesteaded in the New Gottland area of McPherson County in the spring of 1871. He and his brother Gust were among the earliest settlers in that part of the county.
