This photograph shows inmates Joe Griffin, prisoner #8668 and John Gilbert, prisoner #8869. Joe Griffin was received at the Kansas State Penitentiary on October 10, 1898 from Mitchell County, Kansas for grand larceny. He served another term at the penitentiary as C.J. or C.T. Lewis, prisoner number 1155. John Gilbert was received at the penitentiary on March 24, 1899 from Clay County, Kansas for murder.
