This photograph shows inmates Thorton Caldwell, 8233, and L.D. Hahn, 8449. Thorton Caldwell was received at the Kansas State Penitentiary on September 7, 1897 from Kay County, Oklahoma for rape. L.D. Hahn was received at the penitentiary on February 17, 1898 from Douglas County, Kansas for burglary and larceny. This was his second term at the penitentiary, his first term was spent under the surname Bennett.
