This photograph shows inmate John Wooden, prisoner #8477 and Van McDowell, prisoner #9231. John Wooden was received at the Kansas State Penitentiary on March 16, 1898 from Osage County, Kansas for rape. Van McDowell was received at the penitentiary on March 5, 1900 from Chautauqua County, Kansas for larceny. He was sentenced on February 6, 1900.
