This copper chain-link coin purse and clasp along with four coins were recovered separately from excavations at the Martindale Cabin site in Greenwood County. The earliest coin was an 1859 Indian Head penny with a perforation on top allowing it to be worn on a necklace or bracelet. The other coins were an 1865 two-cent piece, an 1873 Indian Head penny, and a 1942 Mercury dime. The cabin, home to William and Sallie Martindale, was built in 1857.
