Thomas Hopkins Webb to Hiram Hill

Boston July 31, ‘56
Dear Sir
The best way to manage about Kansas funds is to send out a Letter of Credit, authorizing some one in the Territory to draw on you for the unit which you desire to contribute for the benefit of the needy there. Then, in case your Letter should fall into the hands of the enemy, it would profit them nothing, and there would occur no loss save that of time.
This is the course, I invariably adopt; never sending the money itself A Draft on some one known this way, will readily command the cash. –
S. N. Simpson of Lawrence K. T., I have found to be a trustworthy distributing Agent.
If more convenient to you and other friends, the money may be deposited with me to be remitted, you specifying for what particular objects, if you have a choice, you wish it used. I have thus already sent out several thousand dollars.
Respectfully yours,
Thomas H. Webb
