A map drawn by Clara A. (Helfferich) Hendrickson of Lincoln, Kansas, showing "The raid of May 30, 1869" made by American Indians on the settlers of Indiana Township (T. 12 S., R. 8 W.), Lincoln County. On the front, the map showing creeks, railroads, schools and churches, as well as key events in the raid. On the back of the map, Clara includes an essay about the raid, naming the people killed and describing both the attack and the rescue mission. This is one of several maps drawn by school children for a contest organized by Judge J. C. Ruppenthal of Russell, Kansas. The maps were to meet a "requirement of presenting historical data, together with excellence and accuracy of drawing."
