These twelve snapshots were taken at a picnic in Joplin, Missouri, attended by members of the 1949 Joplin Miners minor league baseball team. The team finished third in the Class C Western Association, with a record of 80-38. Among those pictured is Kansan Harland Coffman of Topeka. Coffman, a right-handed pitcher, appeared in 37 games for the Miners and compiled a 15-12 record, with an ERA of 3.15. In addition to Coffman, other members of the 1949 Joplin Miners who are pictured in the snapshots include: Olin Martin, Bill Bagwell, Jim Finigan, Albert Johnston, David Waters, Warren Moore, Clarence Darrah, manager John Sturm, Denis Jent, Lilburn Smith, Cal Neeman, George Sawyer, Al Pilarcik, Ray Haley, and Thomas Hesketh. Digital reproduction of the photograph was accomplished through a joint project sponsored by the Kansas Historical Society and the Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame.
