George Bain to Governor John St. John

Item Description Bookbag Share

Florence Kan.

Sept.  12  1880

Dear Gov.

Prospects where I have been are immense.  At Parsons, Chetopa, Independence and Winfield overflowing houses and intense interest.  An excursion ran up to Winfield from Arkansas City.  Whenever some fellow cries out "hurrah for the Amendment" another says "hurrah for St. John".  I am delighted with the prospects where I have been, and if these are samples of Kansas then farewell liquor traffic.

While many have done well you are certainly the man to whom belongs the honor of the victory and for in coming generations will guard your ashes in the sacred urn of the State's history.  God bless you

Your friend

Bain
