Photograph of John Winkler and his children seated on the porch of the Denver House hotel in McFarland, Kansas. His children are identified as Arthur, Emelie, Augusta, Robert, Pauline (Lena), and Otto (Dick). John Winkler was one of the founding fathers of Alma, Kansas, having built the first hotel there in 1867. He would build a second hotel in Alma, the Winkler house, and then move to McFarland where he built and operated the Denver House hotel for a time.
