Randolph, Riley Co.  Kans.,

Aug. 17 / 80

His Excell. Gov. St. John,

Topeka, Kans.

Dear Sir:

A Temperance Rally has been called by the friends of the cause in Northern Riley and Western Pottawatomie Co's to be held in a grove near Randolph, on the 11th Sept. next.-

All the preliminaries have been arranged and extensive preparations are being made to make it a pleasant affair and a grand success.  The Com. on Speakers have assigned me the task to invite you to address us on that occasion, believing that your presence and eloquent appeal would make many votes for the amendment. -

I therefore earnestly but respectfully ask

you, in the name of our people to come over and help us, if possibly within your power.  Our brassband and vocal singers will do their very best; the platform will be decorated; full baskets will invite the hungry; a hearty welcome and an appreciative audience is a guaranteed  - in short we are pledged to make it a memorable occasion. - If you will consent to be with us, we will  have a conveyance ready at Manhattan;  or if you prefer the Central Branch route, at Waterville or Blue Rapids.

Hoping you will not disappoint us,

I remain, Governor, with sentiments of great respect, Yours

Ed. Secrest,

Memb. of Com.
