Had two grand meeting at Kansas City Monday & Tuesday   The most enjoyable for six months   Came here yesterday and opened fire last night not to a very enthusiastic audience,  This is the strong hold of rumocracy and the devil of the drunk traffic holds high Carnival, I shall give them amendment pure and simple to night.  This closes my campaign in this part of the (bottom of the page missing)

Will leave for Lawrence tomorrow reaching there Sat morning, In the evening have a joint discussion with Gov Robinson at Clinton and will meet him several times next week.  I speak at Endora on Thursday the 19.  this will close my speaking in this way until after the camp meeting.   I shall go nite camp on Friday, and as it is the general understanding of the Committee and yourself that I am to preside at the meetings in your absence, I want you in your opening speech on Friday at the close of the same, in a formal way appoint me.

to act in your absence and in that State my connection with the movement in the State in the last three years to which I will reply as best I may. As I have said to you and other members of the Committee I do not care to be counted a regular speaker this time, but I will consider it a pleasure and honor to preside and if I shall be of any special service to the Camp meeting, I can be better in this way than any other____I am glad to see your continued success in securing delegates favorable to your renomination.  Rev Clark of Newton informed me on Monday

that you carried Harvey County largly - Glad of it!  For this is as it should be.  I should judge from what I see here that the delegates from this part of Summer county will be against you- there is absolutly no temperance men here who run things  So I hope that it may be different I will look after your interests as best I can while here.  God bless you and give you success.
