Item Description Bookbag Share

Osawatomie April 15th/60
Kit Brown
I am ashamed of you. I feel like pointing my finger at you, and --- hissing. To think that you should have wasted a whole postage stamp on the outside of such a microscopic’ letter as that.
I shall write you a short letter to pay for it. I ain’t a going to mind your insinuations and remarks in the first part of that letter. We’ll talk about that next saturday (maybe) for you must come home Friday. And by all means take all the new scholars you can get as pa’ says, even if you have to have your sewing done’. You, haven’t a bit of an idea how tight things are here, and your situation there, though it has its mortifications and embarresments in the shape of debts, want of money and clothing &c is a great deal better than it would

be here, and I think you had better stay.
Seems to me you’ve an awful bashful – well, lover. I should be ashamed of myself to be hanging round as long as he has without – well, getting engaged. Who’d thought you would ave taken a fancy to such a milk-and-water infant as him. Mother says he shaves smooth, but I’d like to see the papers’ proving that he ever had anything to shave. And that poor gent in white and black’ too; ah! this first love. Rock and I was having a confab over it the other day, and come to the unanimous resolution that it would last to eternity when there’s no one else comes round to bother, but it won’t stand a change of ‘scenery.’
Pa stump round the same as usual, one day expecting to lay his bones here &c’ and the next, having several little jobs to do? to day is working day, and as Rock says, he’s ‘popping us through’
Written during morning, 16th to make full use of postage stamp. ----Spence -----
