O C Brown Esq
Dear Sir
Your favor of the 31st ult was received this morning. I am very glad to hear from you As regards the press etc. I wrote Gardiner what I thought best for you and in fact for all at that time, which was for you and those interested in the building up of Osawatomie to take the Press and other printing material pay my debts and give me deeds for lots in Osawatomie (which I could sell in this place to those going to Kansas as there is a great many starting from this place Lane is now here with a party and will start soon there is a large party to start about First of April (young men of this town)
In this way the Press etc. would

cost you but what I owe for as yet the lots are but little value all I sold would induce setlers in that place and they can be sold here for Lots in Lawrence & Leavenworth Omaha City – Quindaro etc etc. sell duly this would be what you most want and I would do my best to make Osawatomie a large town at it would be to my interest to do so Then you could get plenty of men to take charge of the paper I mean the printing as you would Editor it yourself. Then you would have all in your own hands This is what I would rather do. But this is what I can do (or at least ther are two different parties who want the press) A man by the name of Cook about to start for Kansas is now trying to get it. Another is a person of Kansas who is about to start a New Town &

wants it for his place you know the value of a Paper in a town. and then the job work will more than pay for all (I owe) in 6 months and you Could pay in 6 months paper and at the End of that time have made the amount out of the Press. You could carry from home at least 200 subscribers at $2.00. this would pay what I owe nearly. You would want 2 good men and a boy besides yourself. The Advertizements would amount to Enough in one month to pay (all I owe).
Now Friend Brown I think this the very best thing you can do and as I must give those other parties an answer soon pleas deside at once
I hope you will pass through this City to Kansas thire is not a week but what a party leaves the 1st of April party would be a valuable one

for you as any other parties then have all mony and will take at least $10,000 with them I think you could make a good thing by passing through Mt Pleasant.
Mrs Dayton wishes to know if the ladies go with you. Mrs D. will go with me in the spring on a visit to Kansas I think I can make Considerable money by spending two months there after the Land office is Open I write you from a sick bed which I have had to keep nearly Ever since I Came from Kansas. Mrs Dayton sends her love to Kitty & Mrs B. pleas remember me kindly answer soon.
Yours as Ever
Oscar [V ?] Dayton
I wrote to Taton to attend to my business Yet I shall look after it myself or get you to do so for me.
