Dear Sir.

I called at your office on Thursday of this week, but was so unfortunate as to find you absent.  I have been introduced to your notice by Mrs DeGeer of Chicago, and have been in your state giving Temperance and Medical Lectures.

I have succeeded well in the Medical Field, but fail almost altogether in the Temperance cause.  This seems strange, but the people seem afraid of me.  I cannot work under these circumstances.  My self respect would not let me; I bring testamonials of character and efficiency from Ind,

Probably if I had your endorsement, I might succeed better.  If you arrive at home soon, will you drop me a line stating when I could see you.  I give Miss Amanda May as recommendation.  She worked with me ten years ago in Indiana.

Hoping I may hear  from you, I remain yours in the cause of Temperance.
