These three photographs show Louis Newton "Lon" Ury, who was born and raised in Fort Scott, Kansas. Lon Ury was a professional baseball player and manager from 1902 through 1914. He played primarily at the minor league level, but in 1903 received a two-game trial at first base with the St. Louis Cardinals. Two of the three photographs are from Ury's tenure with minor league teams in Dallas, where he played from 1902 to 1906. The third image is a real photo postcard from Kewanee, Illinois, where Ury played in 1910. In addition to his playing career, Ury managed minor league teams in Salina, Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Hugo, Oklahoma.
Lon Ury was born in Fort Scott in 1877; he died in Kansas City, Missouri in 1918 at the age of 41. Ury is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott.
