This panoramic photograph shows members of the 1927 All-Kansas Special tour at a White House reception in Washington, D.C. The two-week tour was sponsored by the Kansas Farmer and featured visits to industrial plants and historic sites. Thirty-two farmers signed up for the tour. The group left November 27 by Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe passenger train. They made stops in Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Windsor, Canada; Buffalo, New York; Schenectady, New York; New York, New York; Philadelphia, PA; Akron, OH; and Washington, D.C. The group spent three days in Washington. When they visited the White House, they had this photograph taken with President Coolidge. William Jardine, Secretary of Agriculture and former Dean of the School of Agriculture at Kansas State Agricultural College (Kansas State University), hosted a luncheon for the farmers. Several of the people in the photograph are identified: Melvin Taylor Kelsey, 9th from left; Senator Arthur Capper, 13th from left; President Calvin Coolidge, 15th from left; and Representative Daniel R. Anthony, 19th from left.
