This sepia colored photograph shows an elm tree being planted near the Lincoln statue on the Kansas Capitol grounds. The tree is to honor the soldiers who served with the U.S. Thirty-Fifth Infantry Division in World War I. The event coincided with the Thirty-Fifth's reunion held in Topeka, Kansas. The twenty-first Governor of Kansas, Henry J. Allen is standing near the tree on the far left side of the photograph.
