A male patient at Topeka State Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, wove this rope, photographed in 1963. The inscription reads : "A male patient in a state hospital collected grocery string wherever he could find it, wove it into rope -- the result, a ball of one continuous strand of rope and years and years of solitary life withdrawn from people."
