This black and white photograph shows the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company bridge in Ft. Madison, Iowa. The city council of Ft. Madison passed an ordinance on December 31, 1886, granting the Chicago, Santa Fe and California Railroad the right to build the bridge over the Mississippi River.
