This sepia colored photograph shows a steam locomotive with rail cars and a caboose on the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company's Canyon Diablo bridge in northern Arizona. Construction on the trestle bridge began in 1880 when the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad Company laid the first set of tracks from Winslow, Arizona to Canyon Diablo. Due to construction and financial difficulties, the project was temporarily put on hold until the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company took over the task of completing the structure in 1882.
