Castleton Vt. May 27th 1828

 

Dear Friend

 

I am siting in my roome now, and something [stack] in my heart, I thought than I shall write to you I was thinking that I promise you that I should write five letters in a year but I am vary mistaken, you must excuse me.  I thought than I shall write to you, but one thing, my Dear Friend you don’t write to me any letters sense I come in this place, yes, yes, my Dear Frien I must looke out for letters, before I write again.  we want to hear from you vary much.  I am studying Grammar, and Arithmetic & here is Brother Thomas seting on my table he studying Grammer and Geography, we are learning fast as we can, but our healths it has been vary poor this winter we have been vary sick about two weeks, but our health are vary good and strong I think my health are stronger than before I was sick and nother thing our eyes are vary weak because we study in the night, so much.  We like the yenkees vary well, and they like us well too, they want to see us most evrey town in Vermont, we dont have chance to go, there is six towns that want it to see us, we would like to go vary well if we have time, but we cant live our studies vary well, when we go visit anney town, we always find good Friends, but one thing we dont like vary well that is they ask to many question, but I tell them much as I know, and we dont let them know it.  when we go visiting anny town, we generally most give out that they ask to many Question, we wont never get poor long as we live in this place because we find great many good Friends, & the gentlemans they ask us about mans and [the ladies] they ask us about squaws &c

Sir, I want ask you one question that is if you will sale my gun I shall be vary glad if you will, and I want you should sale it quick as you can.  get money if you can, and you can send it when the girls come in this place, you can send it just as well I will tell you what I want it for, it is because we want get watch when we go off we cant tell what time it is, some time our Master want us to say our lession sometimes we get in the school vary late and he dont like it vary well, we ought to have one I think, & I want you should tell me about the Indian when you write to me, I shall be vary much pleased if you will we are doing well -- -- good night it is sun down.
